Supporting the well-being of children
About Us
Tui Trust is a Waikato-based charity founded in 2003 by Tania Simpson. Our mission is to break the inter-generational cycle of disadvantage by ensuring that all children have access to quality education and opportunities for personal growth. Through targeted initiatives we strive to create a future where every child, regardless of their background, has the resources and support needed to thrive and reach their full potential.
Tui Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees, who provide strategic oversight and guidance. We are supported by a team of financial, cultural, and education advisors who contribute their expertise to ensure the Trust's initiatives are well-rounded and impactful. Our work is strengthened by the efforts of volunteers, and day-to-day operations and project management are overseen by the Board Executive. This collaborative structure allows us to effectively manage our projects and continuously support the communities we serve.

Access to quality education
Tui Trust leads intervention projects that focus on supporting initiatives aimed at removing barriers preventing tamariki from accessing quality education. These projects target the systemic and socio-economic challenges that many children face, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in their learning environment. By addressing issues such as poverty, lack of resources, and limited access to educational support, Tui Trust works to create equitable opportunities for tamariki, empowering them to succeed academically and build a brighter future. Through these efforts, the Trust plays a crucial role in fostering inclusive education and uplifting vulnerable communities.
We support:
-
Tamariki Sponsorship - contribute to the cost of a child's education including i.e. specialist diagnostic referrals and assessments, connectivity and devices, chromebooks, specialist learning memberships.
-
Improving Literacy - contribute to the cost of initiatives that ensures a child's specialist and/or learning difference needs are met for children struggling with literacy. We can help connect children with specialist tutors or teachers who teach structured, structured literacy or explicit and systematic teaching of all important components of literacy. To ensure children are being taught in a way that works for them this will include Structured Literacy or the The Science of Reading training for upskilling for teachers, teacher aides, tutors, parents, whānau and caregivers or whomever is supporting the child. Refer resources page.
-
There will be attention given to tamariki with developmental, neurological learning differences i.e. dyxlesia.
